The University intends to provide the safest possible environment for our staff and students. However, it must be recognized that ultimately each individual is also responsible for aspects of his or her own safety and security. Further, the input of both staff and students is vital to ensuring Campus Safety’s ability to carry out its charge and aid in the prevention of crime or other incidents. Thus, the following protocols are recommended:
- If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY.
- If you or someone you know may be at risk to harm themselves or others, or if you need assistance with a personal crisis, CALL 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
- You may also simply wish to call 211 or (800) 339-6993 for help with:
- Crisis services, domestic violence, legal assistance, substance abuse, mental health, and much more.
- You can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or visit their website at http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/
- If you have or are aware of a non-emergency situation, or wish to report a crime or suspicious activity on campus, CALL 562-902-3333 for the on-duty Campus Safety officer.
- If you need to report an instance of sexual misconduct, discrimination, or assault please consult the Title IX tab.
- If you are unsure of who to contact, or if you feel uncomfortable calling Campus Safety or the Counseling office directly, please use the form provided on the right to share any information concerning an incident, crime, unsafe activity, or just general concerns. Campus Safety will then promptly investigate the issue and provide follow-ups as appropriate.

- All reporting may be done anonymously, however, please consider providing your contact information if a given situation requires urgent attention.
- The filing of a report does not constitute that a crime was committed. Campus Safety uses the data provided in reports as “information only,” and may – at its discretion – share said information with the University counseling office or local law enforcement.
- Information transmitted via "REPORT IT" does not go on your student record.
- DOE regulations and the Clery Act require that reported crimes be recorded and made publicly available via the institution’s “Daily Crime Log,” however all personally identifiable information is absent from this record, and the campus is not alerted when the "Daily Crime Log" is updated - it is simply available for a view inside the Campus Safety Office.
