Lockdown is used when an armed intruder enters campus or is in a building. Lockdown is meant to keep persons in one safe location when there is an unknown threat outside of the classroom or buildings. If there is a threat to the campus from an armed intruder, immediately call 9-1-1 and Campus Safety at x333.

The following procedures are a guideline. Following them will not guarantee complete safety for everyone during a serious event on campus.

A Threat Outside the Building

  • Secure all exterior doors.
  • Close blinds (if safe to do so), then stay away from windows.
  • Classrooms and offices: lie face down, flat on the floor; cover head, get under tables/desks.
  • Stay put! Move only if remaining where you are is more dangerous.
  • In other areas (glen, open spaces), DUCK AND COVER. Use objects immediately available for protection (e.g. vehicles, trees, utility poles, etc.)
  • If in a completely open area, lie down and remain motionless.
